Hello,

My name is Kelly Phangura and I will be the new Program's Director Assistant at IMSS. I have lived in the north all my life, born and raised in Quesnel and now currently in the Social Work program at UNBC. Growing up in Quesnel as a visible minority has helped me see life through a different lens. I understand the pros and cons of being a minority. I believe I can be a positive role model for immigrant youth today and help reduce culture shock by sharing my experiences with them on a personal basis.

Being new to this position, Shaun has been kind enough to assist me in getting familiar with this role and I thank him for that. The first activity being held in the new year for our buddies is Sledding. We will be walking to Carney hill to enjoy a day of fun physical activity, making new friends and welcoming back our previous ones while building strong relationships in the new year. This is planned for Saturday, January the 16th. This will be my first planned activity and Shaun has volunteered to help me out by participating and introducing me to the buddies. I look forward in meeting the buddies and staff at IMSS. Thank you for your time and Happy New Year!

Hello everyone,

IMSS and the Buddy Program would like to wish you all a happy and safe holiday season and an excellent New Year. Buddy program activities will resume on Saturday January 9th 2010. Check your mailbox and email for information about the next activity.

A big change for the New Year will be a new program assistant. Kelly Phangura will be teaking over from Shaun Henry in 2010. Shaun will be around for many of the activities but Kelly will be maintaining the regular activities of the program.

Kelly is very enthusiastic about joining the program. We can't wait for the first activity in 2010!

Holiday Party

Hello Everyone,

IMSS is hosting a holiday party with the school district swis team and you and your families are all invited. The party will be at the Van Bien training centre located at 311 Wilson Cres. It is from 7-10pm. There will be some snacks, games and a walk around Candy Cane Lane to look at the x-mxas lights. Hope to see everyone out!

Music Making

Hello everyone,

The next activity will be a pizza dinner where we will be making musical instruments from everyday items! There will aslo be other crafts and games to do as well as a movie playing. The activity will be held at IMSS from 5pm-7pm on Wednesday December 2nd. Hope to see lots of you out!

Health Fair

IMSS is hosting the A Healthier You Expo at the Civic Centre downtown on Saturday Nov. 14 and Sunday Nov. 15. Buddy program participants and their families are encouraged to attend at some point during the weekend. If any buddy program participants are interested in volunteering we need people to do some surveys, handle coat check and do other odd jobs to help out. Please contact Shaun if you are able and interested in helping out!

Halloween at Huble Homestead

The Buddy program had a wonderful trip to Huble Homestead where participants were treated to magic shows, fortune telling and an unbelievable Haunted House! Everyone left with smiles and some even came away with their very own carved pumpkin!
